How Blue-Light Blocking Glasses Reduce Eye Strain

As we face this pandemic on a world-wide scale, our lifestyles have been drastically changed. As a society, we are already exposed to blue light on a daily basis via our phone screens and computers.

Now, with businesses closing and switching to work-from-home atmospheres, as well as schooling being conducted virtually - the exposure to blue light has increased. We need a solution for protecting our eyes from this excessive blue light exposure.

What is Blue Light?

Blue light itself isn't a bad thing, considering it's everywhere including sunlight. Researchers have determined that blue wavelengths - at high energy light waves - are beneficial in small doses during daylight hours because they boost attention, reaction times, and mood.

Until recently, humans were mostly exposed to natural light during the day and darkness at night. But now we're constantly taking in artificial light, the majority of it blue. Too much exposure to blue light can disrupt the body's biological clock, which can then negatively impact sleeping patterns, health, and productivity.

Before this pandemic, according to The Vision Council, already 200 million Americans had reported symptoms of digital eye strain (DES), a form of eye discomfort which can be caused from looking at a screen for more than two hours at a time.

The latest technology that has come to rescue our eyes are blue light glasses, specifically blue light lenses.

The Benefits of Blue Light Glasses

1. Ease eye discomfort

Blue light glasses enhance your focus and reduce eye strain, making your eyes feel more awake. This can also boost your productivity since your eyes will not be harmed as much due to the higher-than-average computer use.

2. Improve sleep habits

Blue light glasses help fight against the high energy emitted by screens, allowing you to still use your device before bed while still enjoying a restful night's sleep.

3. Fight against Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

AMD is a top cause of blindness in the U.S. Blue light glasses combat this condition by filtering HEV blue light that can harm the retina, cause eye strain and alter concentration and sleep patterns. They can also help improve early AMD symptoms, such as blurry vision.

Do You Need a Prescription?

The short answer is "no." A prescription is not required to get your own pair of blue light glasses. If you are someone who already has prescription lenses, blue light capabilities can be a choice to consider along-with your prescription.

In these times of extensive screen usage, doubled with the urge to switch back to wearing glasses instead of contact lenses during the pandemic, there has never been a better time to keep our eyes clean and safe.

Blue Light Glasses Don't Have to Be Unappealing

Lenses are separate when it comes to glasses, with the frames showcasing your style and preferences. For this reason, blue light glasses don't have to be standard and you do not have to settle for a pair that doesn't suit you.

We partner with Blutech Lenses while still offering our designer frames to host these beneficial lenses. All our frames can be fitted with these blue-light lenses, to create a safer environment for your eyes, while looking your best all at the same time.

While we have had to make a lot of changes to our lifestyles, we shouldn't sacrifice our eyes and the quality of care our vision requires in this era of change and intense screen-time.
